Drama
— Drama can be both super serious or pretty funny, but regardless it follows a mostly straightforward plot throughout, with mostly straightforward characters.
Stock
— Stock can also be both serious or funny but mostly played straight, plus has more action and/or edge. (“Stock” comes from gun-stock, which is usually present here).
Farce
— Farce is usually funnier, but can also be less so in more sardonic stories. Either way, a thing is farce in that it has a more absurd plot with more strange or silly characters.
Freak
— Freak is usually darker or sardonic but can be funny. Like farce, it has a more absurd plot with stranger or sillier characters, plus more scares and/or discomfort.
Stunt
— Stunt encompasses films with heavy fantasy or science fiction; talking animals/objects; stupid action, like skyscrapers crumbling; or stories of times so ancient they feel like fantasy. It could be further divided into tonal forms like the above, however, because stunt films are usually larger in scope (and so production scale), there are fewer of them made. So, for the rankings they fall under one unifying label: stunt, or “not standard.”
